Where a beginner should actually start
The efficient first hundred words are not exotic: greetings (你好, 谢谢, 再见), numbers (一 to 十), family members (爸爸, 妈妈), and classroom survival phrases (老师, 同学). They share simple, high-frequency characters, so every sheet practices shapes that immediately come back. From tracing to recall, in stages
A beginner sheet should change over the week even when the words don't. Day one: "All tracing". Day three: trace-to-blank ratio 3:1, so most cells demand writing from memory with a model nearby. End of week: the dictation quiz, where only pinyin and the English meaning are shown and the characters come from the head, not the eye. This see-trace-recall ladder is the same sequence used in structured home curricula — the difference is the sheets regenerate in seconds instead of being photocopied from a workbook.
If the goal is HSK
Beginners working toward HSK 1 or 2 can skip list-building entirely: the HSK 2.0 Level 1 word list (150 words) and its companions load straight into the generator as printable tracing sheets or quizzes. YCT 1–4 — the youth version of the test — is built in too, and is usually the better fit for learners under twelve.
