What works at five and six
Kindergarten handwriting is a fine-motor exercise before it is a language exercise. Three settings matter more than everything else combined: cell size L (16 mm), so an unsteady pencil has room; six to ten characters per sheet, so the task ends before the attention does; and one row per character with "All tracing", so success is guaranteed on day one. The 田 tian zi ge grid — the same grid used in Chinese primary schools — gives the center cross that helps small hands place strokes proportionally.
Starter characters that earn their place
The pre-filled sheet uses the classic starter set — 人 (person), 口 (mouth), 手 (hand), 日 (sun), 月 (moon), 水 (water), 火 (fire), 山 (mountain). They are pictographic, two to five strokes each, and they reappear inside hundreds of later characters, so practicing them is never wasted. When those are solid, move to numbers 一 to 十, then the topic word packs — animals, colors, food, family — each of which loads into the generator with one click from the word list library.
A ten-minute daily routine
Kindergarten practice should be short and daily rather than long and occasional. One sheet, one sitting, ten minutes: trace each row left to right, say the word out loud with the pinyin label, and stop while it is still fun. Characters that wobble get tapped into the mistake book in the preview; on the weekend, print a review sheet of just those. That is the whole curriculum at this age — consistency beats volume.

What grid size should a kindergartener use?
L (16 mm) cells on the 田 tian zi ge grid. The large cells give young hands room to control the pencil, and the center cross helps place strokes proportionally.
How many characters per sheet?
Six to ten. A sheet should be a 10–15 minute task, not a battle. The generator's free tier (30 characters per sheet) is far more than a kindergarten session needs.
Should kindergarten sheets include pinyin?
Yes — say each word out loud from the pinyin label while tracing. At this age the goal is connecting sound, meaning and shape, not silent copying.
